Finding Your Fit
My church (GTA) is in the third week of a series in which we find our role, our piece of the puzzle in the church. There are two tests that we can do on this page on their website.
Test #1 is only ten questions and mostly a general personality test. I prefer this HOTS survey since that's the one that we have been using at my workplace for a while. (Thanks, Steve.) I'm the classic turtle, according tot he HOTS survey.
Test #2 is much longer with 110 questions in total. This one deals with our spiritual gifts and I found this one to be much more interesting. For my own sake, I'll record my totals here:
- Pastor (20)
- Music (20)
- Apostle (19)
- Exhortation (19)
- Widsdom (18)
- Leadership (18)
- Discernment (17)
This series continues for another five weeks so we're covering a lot of territory. The acronym that we're working through is SHAPE: Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences. Our pastor is actually having an in-depth teaching session on Wednesday April 13 at 7:00 pm to delve into this spritual gifts topic further, as described here. It should be really interesting.

I'm an owl or something? Which is completely wrong when you read it! Tests never work on me...they always come up opposite what I really am. Strange.
I'm a hare/owl, does that mean I would eat myself if I was a baby...weird. Stupid tests.
Apparently I'm a "Level 7 Necromancer" with +40 burnination but -20 humour.
...hey wait... I think I did the wrong test.
Oops, sorry, I [Dan] posted the last comment.
What you say about preconcieved notions may be more accurate then you know. I looked at Test 2, and boy, those questions are leading.
Examples:
14) There is great satisfaction in giving large amounts of money for the Lord's work.
Answer: 0. I admit I am a selfish SOB.
47) I feel a burden to share the Gospel with people.
Answer: 0. Nope, let 'em burn.
15) I feel great compassion for the problems of others.
Answer: 0. Clearly, I am a selfish SOB.
I mean, come on. These questions all include the right answer. Everyone will pick up on this, and everyone will learn towards giving the right answer.
I agree, Mike, I didn't like the way that a bunch of the questions were phrased. Still, the test does provide some benefit.
For me, craftsmanship was 0 even though I'm a computer programmer and I consider that "digital craftmanship." My giving was extremely low, something around 4. And evangelism was low for me as well, which I don't like but had to admit to myself.
If we put our heads together I'm sure that we could come up with a more well-balanced version of that test but that would be an awful lot of work. Heh.
Come on Mike, on the second test I scored straight 20's, so it must be right...regardless of the fact that it's a 5-point likert scale rather than 7-point, there is no reverse coding, the scoring mechanism is provided prior to completion of the test, there are leading questions (all?), it's self-administered and self-scored, and there are no measures of reliability and validity reported (and it only takes about 35 seconds to at least get Cronbach's alpha). Hmmm, seems all those stats courses are getting to me...
We bow to Abe's book learnin'.
Yeah, there's all that stuff, then the simple questionable nature of asking a quiz to tell who you are. Very fishy, if you ask me. Are you so easily reduced to numbers?
Necromancer casts "Shut the Hell Up" Spell on Abe's statistics lingo. Gains +10 popularity!
