Here Lies This Blog

Richard and Joel Terry have completed their first mural at Open Doors Church. Richard has further details on his blog. Congratulations to them both and I hope to see more of their work soon.

Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, has a blog that he regularly updates. He usually delves into some pretty funny and bizarre topics so you might want to check it out. One of his recent posts from this past week mentions that he was doing research on the debate over Intelligent Design, looking for comic fodder. He's on to Part Two as of this morning. Funny stuff.

As a computer geek, I like to visit most of my blog links several times every day. I also visit the inactive blogs regularly, just in case someone uses them again. Alas, my blog links are somewhat lengthy and therefore useless to people that actually bother to look at them. That being said, I will link to each of the inactive blogs one last time in this post and remove them from my menu bar.

Here lies this site.
It was great but it might
Have run it's course.
Have no remorse.

Adams is right about the ridiculous amount of misrepresentation that goes on in the origins debate.

But for the life of me, I can't understand part 2.

Adams says:

I said it’s POSSIBLE for scientists to have herd mentality. PZ interprets that as if I’m saying scientists DO.

Adams was either stating a tautology with his herd mentality comment, or he was making a concrete accusation. So either Adams' comments were silly and redundant, or they were deeply ignorant and PZ's response was entirely appropriate.

Adams and PZ were both writing for different purposes, so they phrased things differently and put emphasis on different things. I bet if they sat down and carefully discussed this face to face, they would end up on the same page.

I loved the dilbert blog about the feud finally someone can objectively look at the evidence! and what's not to understand mike? There does exist some herd mentality he explained this. Adams' comments may have been redundant for us A.D.D.'ers like you and I mike but silly and deeply ignorant? whatever. your just bitter. If this was an athiests web site you would have blasted PZ but you just have to argue it cuz jamie's a christian. And maybe if we sat down and discussed this we'd end up on the same page too.

I said I didn't understand part 2, because it appears to me that Adams did a remarkable job of misrepresenting PZ's post - in a series complaining about misrepresentation.

What are A.D.D.ers? And I don't know what you think I'm bitter about.

You think I'm defending PZ because Jamie is a Christian, specifically a young earth creationist? Do I understand you right?

ADD=attention deficit disorder. I think you like playing devils advocate too much. So as an agnostic you can always pick the opposite oppinion. It's a great set up for you. Man, if I were in the debate circle that would be my possition of choice (if only I didn't have all these pesky beliefs). BTW How's chuck doing?

Ah, how refreshing. It's been a while since someone called me a nihilist. I was starting to think I had lost my touch!

And Charles is doing pretty well. Wedding plans are moving along. (If you aren't invited, don't be offended; there are only 22 people total going)

Mmm, right, only one door. I think I was corrected on that before at some point.

Wait! I might not be quite done with blogging just yet. I just wanted a little break...maybe I'll renovate or something. Does blogging death have to be forever or is resurrection possible?

Cheers,

guy, you may consider yourself French-Canadian, but I consider myself English-Canadian. Therefore it's with a Y and not an I. ~L

Laura, I changed the spelling of your name from "Mai" to "May."

Amanada, I've removed your blog from my RIP list. Consider it resurrected. When Laura killed her blog, she removed all of the postings. I presumed you had the same purpose, hence your former inclusion in the list.

Anyone else wanna correct me?

Battle said...

Yes, (from "Mai" to "May.") should be (from "Mai" to "May".). The period should be after the quote.

Jamie A. Grant said...

As I recall, I was taught that the period should be inside the quote. So there.

Seriously, though, does anyone have a reference about this rule of English punctuation? I would like to know since I use this type of punctuation frequently at work.

Aleah said...

Hmm I'd agree with Richard. Since the quote was within another sentence, you have to put the period outside the quotation marks.

Battle said...

I was reading the bare essentials 5th ed. and quotations always go after the punctuation. I'm sorry Jamie. Grammar really stinks it's so percise. (as I was writing this I became paranoid about who will be picking apart my grammar so I re-read this post 9 times to make sure it was't too bad)

Re: "quotations always go after the punctuation"

Um, yes. That's what I did.

You were right and I was wrong. Hey why don't you have a link to Amanda's Blog now?

Amanda's link is in my main blog links again.
